2008 Chicago Air and Water Show Big AIr Invitational

This year’s Chicago Air and Water Show, which drew more than 3 million spectators, was the home of the International Racing Association’s / Liquid X Freestyle, North American Big Air Championships. I must say that it was the best Air and Water Show that I have had the privilege of participating in. The weather was perfect all three days, and Lake Michigan laid down allowing for our boats to create optimal double-up waves. That is right, huge double-up waves were created on Saturday and Sunday with 40 foot offshore cruisers. Both days provided a new extended show format as Amateur Riders performed north of the North Ave. Beach hook, while Pro Riders performed south of the hook directly at North Avenue Beach. This was the first time that the show was produced like this.
Another new addition was the addition of a single wake, from a 60 foot yacht, that traveled behind the double-up waves to supply a double-up plus. This provided an opportunity for riders to show off back flip tricks off of the double-up and barrel roll variations off of the plus wave. I have personally never attempted anything like this before, and after a 30 minute show / competition, I was exhausted.
Team Twangled rocked the 50th Annual Chicago Air and Water Show in many ways. Not only was I able to pull off the overall Big Air Championship with a number f backflips and barrel rolls, but Greg Brock pulled his first ever back flip! Hoffman assisted from shore by announcing all of the Twangled action. Video and picture to come soon… Stay Tuned…
