The 2011 IJSBA National Tour headed into Racine, Wisconsin last weekend for the 3rd round of the tour. I was able to make it out to the event on behalf of Hydro-Turf, Freestyle Factory & Twangled. I got some fun helmet cam, including some very foggy helmet cam during Sunday’s run. I tied for 4th all weekend with the newest Freestyle Factory pro rider Joe Eckert, but Eckert nudged me in the tie breaker for the better final position. I ultimately finished in a well deserved 5th, having no back flip last weekend. Check out the videos of Saturday & Sunday’s runs.
Conditions for the Freestyle competition where a little sketchy with rough conditions but not quite rolling waves and every rider told me they were having trouble timing their jumps. It became very apparent that each Freestyler was going to have to reach deep into their bag of tricks to impress the judges. Michael “Rad” Ratti and Jeremy “Parr Diddy” Parr had near identical quality runs and both posted the same tally of 27.4. Jason “The Destroyer” Stoyer told me on the beach after his run that he, “Just couldn’t get comfortable and I lost my train of thought when I heard a whistle and scream from the beach. I thought someone was in trouble.” All was well on the beach, it was just a few very enthusiastic fans and he was able to hold things together well enough to post the top score with a 28.1 and has the lead going into Sundays run.
Things got off to a fast start in the Runabout Open class with Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Dustin Farthing taking the holeshot and getting into clean water for a wire to wire win. Erminio “The Boss of Watercross” Iantosca bolted from the gate in the second spot on his Riva Racing and although he was unable to close the gap on “El Diablo” he said he was “ecstatic” about his second place finish. Behind our two front runners the battle raged for third and fourth with the Dean’s Team Yamaha of Dustin Charrier holding off the hard charging National Guard number 21 of Trey Frame.
In the Pro Ski GP class “The G.O.A.T.” Chris MacClugage dropped the hammer at the starting gate and proceeded to check out aboard his Monster Energy MAAC Racing Kawasaki. Ricky “Boy” Sherker cleared the first marker in second position and the Doylestown, PA native held that spot all the way through the checkers. Bill “The Hurricane” Haig briefly held the third position, but was passed early in the session by Jimmy “Neutron” Cebulski and Rob “Flo” Flores. Flores worked the back deck of Cebulski for the better part of seven laps but was unable to get around the rider from Chi-Town and had to settle for a fourth place finish, leaving Jimmy in the final podium spot.
