As Burtka and I headed to Hillsdale Michigan for round 1 of the APBA Monster Energy Mid-West Watercross Tour, we were supprised to see that racing seemed to be domminated by stand-ups.
It would seem that the price of gas coupled with the price of parts has had a bit of a toll on watercross racing. Now I know that I ‘m a freestyle guy. Burtka and I ran our first round in freestyle. So I can tell you I am not going to try to give you a run down on last weekend’s racing event. You can find out all about that on the APBA site (check out our cool links section it will take you right there). I can tell you that there was a pretty strong turn out mostly in stand up classes. Lots of Kawasaki, a few Polaris, Yamaha and some wild sounding Hydrospace. I guess I’m just used to seeing more runnabout boats but the numbers of these skis were much fewer than I remember. Many racers have switched over. It sort of reminds one of the early years when the sport was almost all stand up. I can see why. The new standups are very impressive. Sit-down boats still have it in the top speed catagory mind you. For Gary and I it was good to see old friends and even better to see them riding standups. Surrounded by our fellow stand up riders we had a blast last weekend. Next round is comming up you should check it out. There is always room “down on line”. Oh and speaking of down look for some down loadable footage we shot last weekend. Gary will be putting some clips together for free downloading. Keep an eye on our down load section.
