Hollywood Movie Studio Considers Expansion to Allen Park, MI

This is a great story about my hometown that I wanted to share which came to me directly from the Mayor’s Office.

New Film Studio: Shooting To Locate In Allen Park
ALLEN PARK, Mich. ? The City of Allen Park is in heavy discussions with a Hollywood
studio executive with ties to Michigan who intends to build a $100 million film production
studio in Allen Park, city officials said today.
The studio would create more than 3,500 full-time jobs, a large majority of them
being a variety of skilled trades. The studio executive has already committed that local
people who have been laid off from former factory jobs would be given preference for many
of the positions, officials said.
?Because this would be a major economic development coup for the City of Allen
Park, Wayne County and the entire State of Michigan, and because rumors about this
project have begun circulating, it is important for us to disclose what we can about the
discussions we are having at this time,? said Allen Park Mayor Gary Burtka. ?This is all we
can say right now, but city residents deserve to know this project is a real possibility. It may
not happen, but we want to make sure people understand that the person who came to us
with the proposal is serious, and we are working with many parties to try to close the deal.?

Burtka said the ?very large studio complex? would be built on approximately 60 acres
of land. In addition to the studio site, other commercial, retail and residential development
would occur in tandem with this development.
Burtka said the Allen Park Council and the Administration have done ?everything we
possibly can? over the last five months to make the deal happen. The final items to be
addressed that will move this project from philosophy into reality are being handled
between the Studio Executive, Wayne County and the State.
Burtka said “I must commend Wayne County Executive Bob Ficano and his
economic development team for partnering with us on this project early on. The county has
played a very critical role in trying to attract this studio to our community.” Burtka went on
to state, ?The State, the MEDC and the Michigan Film Office have also shown great
support?.
?If or when we finalize this deal, we will be in the position to provide all of the details
to the public,? Burtka said. ?Until then, we respectfully ask people to wish us luck in
bringing to our city, county and state a new industry, and very significant business and job
provider.?
