Hydro Turf freestyle
With two rounds in the books, in the Freestyle world we are seeing a budding rivalry develop between Jason “The Destroyer” Stoyer and Jeremy “Parr Diddy” Parr. These guys are friends off the water but it was obvious on Sunday in Montgomery that they were pushing each other to new levels. Stoyer went out first and set the bar very high with several sweet combinations including a one handed 180 nose stab to back flip and a 180 nose stab to back flip back flip combo that really got the crowd’s attention. “Parr Diddy” took up the challenge tossing in a back flip one footer and a massive under flip to submarine that he landed perfectly. Michael “Rad” Ratti also stepped up his game throwing in a couple of big speed rolls and a back flip to tail stall combination. “Diddy” and “The Destroyer” have swapped wins in the first two weeks and with us heading to the shores of Lake Michigan the conditions could play a role in the outcome. You never know what you will get on the big lake, it could be as flat as glass or we could see 5 foot rollers. Either way we know things will be interesting.
Runabout Open
With two rounds in the books the Pro Runabout Open class is still wide open. Two races produced two different winners. What is most interesting about that is they literally swapped positions between the Supercup of Watercross and the US Open of Watercross. I am of course talking about the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Dustin Farthing and the National Guard pilot Trey Frame. “El Diablo” took a first in Panama City then a fifth in Montgomery and Frame mirrored that, which left us with a tie atop the standings. What really adds to the drama is Riva Racing rider Erminio “the Boss of Watercross” Iantosca finished consistently in both races and is only 3 points back in third position. Of course you have Claude Clayton, Brian Baldwin and Dean’s Team Yamaha rider Dustin Charrier all within 20 points of the podium so next week’s race in Racine, WI will be crucial to the title hopes of all the riders.
Ski GP
Finally there is a little more breathing room in the Ski GP class where Maac racing rider Chris “The G.O.A.T.” MacClugage has a 24 point lead over second place Walt Motorsports Raceski.com rider Rob “Flo” Flores. However, things were a little dicey at the US Open of Watercross in this class with a big pile up at the start of the second moto. Two other surprises came from Rick “Big Quiet” Sherker who won moto 1 and Jimmy “Neutron” Cebulski who returned to the tour after the birth of his son and looked very strong finishing 2nd on the Alabama River in Montgomery. There are several other riders that are capable of putting together a solid weekend and could upset the standings as well. Jimmy “Eats World” Wilson is always a threat and the young duo of Alec “Respect” Hohnadell and Josh “Block Head” Block could make a run at the top step on the box. It will be interesting to see how things play out this weekend at the Grand Prix of Watercross.
