I read a story on Newser the other day, and could not believe what I was reading. I found out that because of the lead content in the heat resistant paint that is used when painting engine parts mini bikes were currently banned from sale to the public. Not just min bikes all mini motorized vehicles mini quads, mini snowmobiles, scooters ant so on. It would appear that the main target was China. Chines imports of kids toys have received much attention lately. After speaking with a local dealer I was told that the ban is in effect, but the government was working with the manufacturer as they did not wish to target these products. Talk is the there will be special permit issued to allow sales to resume. To date there are no records of children eating the paint off the cylinder of their Honda CR50. Not Yamaha nor Kawasaki, Polaris or any other company has reported such problems. What is next seat belts in your daughters Barbie car?
We need to use our heads. Our motor sports need new riders to help our sports continue to grow. Kids are a big pat of this . Not to mention that there is an education benefit that comes from learning to fix and maintain these vehicles. In the words of famous hot rod designer Big Daddy ( he brought some of those crazy cars of the 70s like the Rat Fink Racer and moon eyes) ” A kid needs something to do with their hands” He felt that keeping kids occupied with things like building motorized vehicles help to keep them away from trouble. Competing in these sports can help bring families together and teach kids about being good sports. I hope that we get this worked out soon. While it is great to protect kids safety it is a shame that our government bodies don’t pay more attention to what they are proposing to do before they just act. As they can cause more harm than good.
