NASCAR sponsership problems old news in jet ski world

In a story on that aired on CNBC, NASCAR officials are expecting tough times ahead. With the costs of racing on the rise and the credit crisis effecting many of the companies that sponsor teams even NASCAR is feeling the heat. Add to this high fuel costs and travel expenses NASCAR is likely to see not only smaller crowds but smaller field of racers as well. One major problem is with the big three they will not be able to support as many teams as in the past. We all know why. So what does this have to do with the PWC world? Anyone who has been competing APBA, IJSBA either racing or freestyle has noticed a huge drop off of competitors. We have been missing our big three for many years now. Without the support of companies like Yamaha, Kawasaki and SeaDoo it is hard to woo any outside sponsorship. Hey, if the guys that build and sell the machines to the public don’t believe enough to throw their hat in the ring why should anyone else. I am not asking for millions in support. It won’t take that much our sport is small but grass roots racing does little to promote research and development let alone bringing any legitimacy to the Pro classes. If the big companies want to continue to sell new boats to the public the need to step up jump back in and help give fans of water sports something to cheer about. Free Rides are great but the recreational crowd comes and goes. Racers on the other hand are generally more dedicated. Its that competitive spirit and drive Don’t get me wrong Kawasaki, Yamaha and SeaDoo should support free rides as well. I just don’t think that the sports network is interested in filming folks on vacation hanging around the beach watching their buddies ride. If they want to create real excitement then its back to the racing and freestyle competitions and a shot at ESPN prime time. Anyway good luck to NASCAR we here feel your pain.
