I just got back from a few hours at my neighbors house. Allison, my neighbor, has been volunteering a ton of hours into this non-profit website. I was curious to learn what all of her efforts was about. Turns out that one of Allison’s good friends is on the journey of a lifetime. “Michelle left her parents’ house in Glen Ellyn, IL, on October 21, 2006, with the goal of cycling approximately 2,400 miles to her brother John’s home in Costa Mesa, CA.” What touched me, is that Michelles ride is not for fame or fortune, but yet the act of giving it all and risking it all in hopes of having a positive affect on her brother. With only a few days thought and preperation, Michelle set out to bicycle across the country on historic route 66. But friends, Michelle needs help. If you live along her route, she is looking for safe hospitable places to rest along the way, as well as moral and monetary support.

When my brother John was diagnosed with oral cancer in 2005 I had no idea the battle he would be facing today. My knowledge and exposure to oral cancer was limited.
To witness his humor, determination, and courage in the face of so much adversity, it is impossible to sit back and not get involved. The result has been route2outsmartcancer, a grass-roots effort to relieve some of his financial burden as well as raise awareness of oral cancer.
My goal is to cycle across the country, traveling Route 66 from our hometown of Glen Ellyn, IL to his present home in Costa Mesa, CA.
GOALS
* Raise $50K through pledges
* Assist the Oral Cancer Foundation in their mission to raise awareness
* Recruit local dentists to offer free community screenings
